Why Does Your Kobelco Excavator Burn Oil?

Jan 28, 2024

Excavator burning oil is a common fault encountered by excavator drivers. Since this fault will cause certain damage to the engine, sufficient attention needs to be paid. Let's talk about why your Kobelco excavator burns engine oil.
Reasons for burning engine oil:

1. When the excavator is working, blue-black smoke appears in the exhaust, and it is easy to observe that the oil consumption is more than usual. This means that the excavator is burning oil. It may be due to wear of the piston rings and valve clearance. The pipe clearance is not adjusted properly, the piston is installed incorrectly, etc.

2. If oil burning occurs and is followed by oil dripping from the exhaust, it is likely that the piston ring is severely worn or broken.

3. The gap between the cylinder liner and the piston is not adjusted properly or the piston oil ring is stuck and broken.

4. If the exhaust gas burning is not serious, it may be caused by insufficient sealing of the turbocharger. At this time, it is recommended to remove the pipes at both ends of the turbocharger to see if there is any oil. If there is oil, it means the turbocharger is not properly sealed. The voltage regulator is faulty.

5. There may be too much engine oil.

6. If the engine valve oil seal is not tightly sealed, it will also cause the excavator to burn oil.

Generally, when we have an excavator burning oil, we first need to check the engine of the excavator. Master Yu from the Yunnan Kobelco Excavator Repair Service Center would like to remind you: Frequent inspections during daily use, timely maintenance, and more careful observation will definitely reduce the occurrence of many failures.
